Train network

All public trains across the country are run by the state-owned operator, SNCB/NMBS.

Get a ticket in the station before boarding to avoid paying the surcharge for buying on board. You can also use your MoBIB card to travel, which you can load with season tickets should you use the train for commuting.

International trains to Paris and London depart from Brussels’ Midi/Zuid station.

Bus operators

We have 3 main operators in Belgium for bus & tram public transportation, each operator covers a specific geographical area.

The MoBIB card operates across the country for all transport options, making it much easier to switch between modes and companies. It significantly facilitates your mobility throughout Belgium. This contactless card exists in two versions: the MoBIB card by name and the MoBIB Basic. On the MoBIB card by name you can load several tickets: subscriptions, single or multiple trips. The MoBIB Basic card (not by name) can be lent to other people! So you can’t have a subscription to it or tickets with discounted fare.

In addition to trains, trams, and buses, MoBIB cards can also be used as payment for car parking and car- and bike-sharing platforms. This gives you plenty of transport options across Belgium. You can also buy tickets when you travel. You can easily manage your subscription(s) or your family’s online and check at any time what subscriptions you have and until they are valid. To do this, link your MOBIB card(s) to your account. You need: your zip code, an account on and your MOBIB card number.
Where to purchase: SNCB, STIB, THE TEC or De Lijn, and from different partners.

Blue Bike

Every somewhat-sizeable station in Belgium now has bikes for rent which are great if you want to discover a city.
They currently offer bikes at over 65 locations which can be rented 24/7
